Pioneering A Whole New Kind of Spine Surgery

Minimally Invasive.
Maximally Effective.

Today’s spine surgery uses small incisions, ensures faster recovery, and delivers consistent results—reflecting our commitment to restoring your quality of life with simplicity and precision.
Neck Procedures
The cervical spine enables head movement and carries nerves that control arm and leg function. Common issues include herniated discs, degeneration, and stenosis, causing pain, stiffness, numbness, or weakness. Most cases are treated without surgery, but when needed, advanced methods like artificial disc replacement and microsurgery are used.
Middle Back Procedures
This part of the spine supports torso movement and contains nerves affecting balance and leg function. Common problems include degeneration, stenosis, and tumors, leading to back pain, balance issues, or bladder/bowel problems. Minimally invasive techniques can often resolve these conditions.
Lower Back Procedures
The lumbar spine carries body weight, enables movement, and houses nerves for leg and bladder function. Conditions like herniation, degeneration, stenosis, tumors, or fractures may cause pain, stiffness, or mobility issues. Today, most are treated successfully—often without hospitalization—using advanced techniques like artificial disc replacement and microdecompression.
Global Alignment
The spine functions best when its regions—cervical, thoracic, and lumbar—are in proper alignment. Structural issues in the bones or discs can lead to deformities like scoliosis (curved spine) or kyphosis (hunchback). Modern techniques such as minimally invasive correction, computer-assisted, and image-guided surgery have greatly improved treatment success.

Gastroenterology and Hepatology

As the Executive Director and Associate Dean for Innovation at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, he leads efforts to advance interventional gastroenterology, foster multidisciplinary ecosystems for innovation and physician entrepreneurship, and integrate cutting-edge technologies to improve patient care. In his roles as Director of Interventional Gastroenterology and Director of System Integration in Advanced Endoscopy, he focuses on developing high-value service lines and pioneering platforms, including robotics and regenerative therapies, to enhance minimally invasive treatments for complex gastrointestinal and metabolic diseases.

With over 15 years of experience in advanced endoscopy, research, and innovation, he has developed and collaborated on numerous procedures and devices, including Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG), POSE 2.0 gastric remodeling for obesity, Intragastric Balloons (IGB), surgical platforms for early GI cancer management, robotic endoscopy, therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound, and per-oral solutions for gastroesophageal reflux disease. He has also introduced classification systems to standardize the management of walled-off pancreatic necrosis and led multiple clinical and pivotal randomized trials.

As co-inventor of Endogenex’s ReCET™ technology, a regenerative therapy for Type II diabetes, he has helped redefine endoscopic approaches to metabolic disease management. His work has resulted in numerous patents and earned international recognition and awards for innovation.

Previously, he served as Assistant Medical Director of Business Development, Associate Research Chair of Innovation, and Director of Advanced Endoscopy at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he fostered multidisciplinary collaboration, supported physician entrepreneurship, and developed strategies to integrate innovation into clinical practice.

He holds a Medical Degree from Brown University and a Master of Public Health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where he gained expertise in health communication, quality improvement, clinical research, and education. As a former Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic, he has authored more than 400 peer-reviewed articles in leading medical journals, including The Lancet.
